Chaas Seva

Cool Relief Under the Summer Sun

The summer months bring punishing heat to Gujarat and much of India, posing serious health risks — particularly for daily wage workers, street vendors, traffic police, and the elderly who spend long hours outdoors. Samvedna's Chaas Seva initiative provides free buttermilk (chaas) to anyone who needs it.

Chaas is a traditional Indian drink made from curd and water, naturally cooling and highly beneficial for digestion and hydration. Rich in probiotics and electrolytes, it is one of the best remedies for heat-related fatigue and dehydration — far healthier and more accessible than commercial cold drinks.

Every day during the summer season, our volunteers set up distribution points at busy intersections, bus stands, markets, hospital campuses, and other high-footfall locations. Hundreds of litres of freshly prepared, hygienic chaas are served free of charge to anyone passing by.

Since its inception, Chaas Seva has distributed over 50,000 glasses across multiple cities, bringing relief and smiles to countless people. It is a simple act of generosity that speaks volumes about the spirit of seva — the joy of giving without expecting anything in return.
